As a child, I grew up with stories about my great, great grandparents’ fruit farms and the beautiful juicy white peaches grown by my great grandfather. My parents have always grown vegetables, and their plants and flowers seem to literally bloom in their presence! My father’s earliest memory is in the garden with his father 'Papa', tending his many varieties of flowers – particularly his roses, with their myriad hues and aromas. And the memories I have of my maternal grandmother evoke her love for sensual touch, beautiful perfumes and her natural sense of style and glamour. Her house would be filled with sweetpeas in the summer months, and I remember their beautiful scent filling the rooms. Through both sides of my family, connection to the senses, to nature's rhythms, to the land, runs strong.
These threads through from the past help to explain the passion I feel towards essential oils -therapeutic elixirs, distilled from a diverse range of plants and flowers from around the world. Each oil with its unique character and story…from Cedarwood wild-crafted in Morocco, to geranium leaves harvested in South Africa and root ginger from Madagascar steam distilled into delicious ginger essential oil.
My personal health and healing journey has also played an important part in my choice of career. As a newborn I had eczema, which re-occurred at several points during my childhood. And in my late twenties, I developed psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis, which brought me to a crisis point in my life.
I began to challenge and re-evaluate my beliefs and goals. This led me to an exploration of complementary therapies and after 7 years working in marketing I made the decision to re-train as a clinical aromatherapist. I also began making and developing my own skin care products, a skill I have continued to develop over the last ten years.
While this period in my life was deeply challenging, I am grateful that it led me to my current field of work. I truly love what I do, supporting people as they move forwards on their journeys towards health, growth and healing.
I believe that essential oils can have a profound impact on an individual, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. I work only with genuine therapeutic-grade essential oils, grown on organic farms, or ethically and sustainably gathered from wild plants. These oils are processed in small distilleries, by artisan distillers who are dedicated to producing only top-quality therapeutic-grade essential oils, specifically for use by aromatherapists.
The integrity of essential oil production is incredibly important to me; most essential oils on general sale world-wide are what could be termed ‘industrial grade’ oils, processed in bulk in large industrial-style plants, to specifications to suit the food-flavouring and perfume industries, and which cannot be considered truly therapeutic.
I trained in 2005 with the Institute of Traditional Herbal Medicine and Aromatherapy (ITHMA). I am a fully qualified member of the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA) a professional body that recognises Aromatherapists who have undertaken training to the highest standards and adheres to a strict code of ethics ensuring high standards of professional integrity, confidentiality and health care are maintained at all times.
I have continued to develop further skills and experience in additional disciplines including holistic pulsing, Shiatsu, pregnancy massage, Hawiian lomi lomi massage and have taken Reiki to master level.
I love an aroma challenge. I can often be found happy and vibrant in the alchemical process of creating, blending and refining some concoction…
